Can Artificial Intelligence Replace Educators Once and For All?

Opinions differ much regarding the question in the headline. But the fact is that AI is getting more and more familiar with the process of teaching and therefore has all chances to evolve into a rather sophisticated self-learning solution, which can be tailored up to the needs of each individual student.

Almost 4,000 primary schools in Britain have already signed up for the virtual platform designed by Third Space Learning to help children cope with tasks in maths easier. Students communicate with their virtual maths tutors via headsets and a shared “whiteboard”. Having such 45-minute lessons on a weekly basis, pupils eagerly solve different problems suggested by the platform.
These examples of applying AI to the field of education are growing in number with every passing day. However, the question is whether introduction of AI can completely substitute human beings.
AI is More Likely to Change the Role of a Teacher
Artificial intelligence can and does facilitate a lot of teaching and learning processes. It is primarily aiming at assisting teachers to manage data and reducing their huge workload. AI can be a good solution for those who have no enough finance or time for attending traditional educational institutions. With AI services or platforms, receiving new skills and knowledge should become a way simpler. The accessibility of education increases dramatically, which is a great advantage.
Artificial intelligence can help educators take better control over the tasks accomplished by students from the comfort of their home. Such programs usually give immediate response saying what mistakes occurred while tackling the task. AI-based programs will certainly ensure better “workout” of the acquired skills and can be extremely helpful for holding tests or even final exams.
AI Can Hardly Compete with Human-Based Instruction
For now, AI can hardly compete with human-based teaching. Still, even if it could reproduce most of human-like mental processes, it can never replace sharing real-human successful experiences, which always are very inspirational. Human ability to think out-of-box and find non-standard solution of the problems is unmatchable. That’s why “traditional” educators are likely to never go out of fashion.
What Kind of Compromise Should Be Reached
To find the golden mean is absolutely necessary. There should be a proper balance between AI-to-human and human-to-human types of interaction. The values of both of them should be evident to both educators and students. Otherwise, new generations will become more and more isolated from the outer world, which can lead to unwanted outcomes.
